In-group bias and Out-group bias

At the end of term 3, we briefly looked at in-group bias and out-group bias.  The above videos talk more about the issues involved.

Discrimination and biases may be difficult to discuss. But surely understanding our flaws is as important if not more as understanding our strengths.

Some questions for discussions may be:
  • Are discrimination and biases part of human nature?
  • Are these characteristics still appropriate?
  • If not, why not?
  • How should we view these characteristics in ourselves and others?

End of term picnic / walk in park

Next Wednesday 14/9/22 will be the last class of term 3 for the Philosophy Phor Phun Discussion (PPPD) class.   If weather is OK, we will meet outside at the BBQ area and possibly go for a walk in the Tunstall park later.  Do  BYO drinks, snacks, sunhats etc.

It is easy to get to the U3A BBQ area.  When you drive in to the main car park from Esdale Street, there is a ramp on the right side (west side) of the car park.  The BBQ area is not far from the top of the ramp.

If the weather is not good, we will meet in the cafe area in the Hub.  Hope to see you all there.
